CRM Staff.
Peter [PK] Knowlton: - Enjoys hunting hogs and light tackle for sooties
from a canoe or barra chasing in a tinnie.
Favourite rifle Remington model 7600 pump in 35 Whelan with 1.5-5 Leupold
or his .44 Mag 1894 Marlin lever topped with an Armson OEG sight. PK is
about to change over to a .308W pump to allow for quicker follow up shots
although still retaining sufficient power for feral hogs.
Most cherished pistol is an S&W custom .38 Special built by Richard
Brinkman.
PK has been involved with competitive pistol shooting for a long time.
Although he never has much spare time to practice he is still able to
compete occasionally with very competitive scores still recorded. He began
shooting IPSC in 1983 and attended the Australian Titles in 1986. A good
result there saw him at the World Shoot in the USA as a member of the
Australian team that same year. Currently still shooting Service Pistol;
Unrestricted; 25m; 1500 match and is very keen on ICORE now. Whenever
schedules allow Rim fire Silhouette rifle is part of the agenda undertaken
with a highly modified Brno Mod2. This rifle sports an Anschutz trigger;
MAB barrel and custom stock.
PK began working for CRM Gunsports when it was based at fishery Falls
several years prior to the Cairns operation which opened in 1993.
Dave Irvin
David’s family has had a long term association with the region through
the growing of sugar cane which is still Dave’s main occupation.
His passion for accurate firearms both short and long sees him also
as a permanent positive addition to the CRM team for several days each
week.
With a shooting history beginning with rifle 35 years ago and pistol
for the last 30 years Dave adds long valuable experience.
David competes at various shooting disciplines including service handgun
and benchrest rifle along with feral vermin control upon his farm south
of town. At an earlier stage he competed regularly at down the line trap.
His favourite rifle is a .44 Rem Mag Marlin 1894 model with which he
is extremely happy due to the short ranges normally encountered around
the headlands. A Remington Model 7600 in .308 Win has been recently added as well. An early model Brno Mod 2 still does sterling duty for
rimfire benchrest. David also is lucky enough to own a Richard Brinkman
service revolver and believes this to be his most cherished firearm.
Bree Selby
Bree has been both a hunter and competitive handgun competitor for the
majority of his adult life.
For many years he competed extensively within the IPSC handgun sector
and still remains active within service pistol.
Similar to Dave, Bree helps provide expert advice and service at CRM
Gunsports several days per week. Both David and Bree are full time when
required to help with staffing due to leave by other members.
Mark Wilkinson
Mark has been active shooting both rifle and handgun for the last 20
years.
He hunts regularly helping keep feral pigs under control on properties
upon the Tablelands.
His favourite rifle is the Miroku .358W lever action and pistol is a
customized CZ75 by Richard Brinkman which has seen many IPSC matches.

Peter [Powder] Charles: - Also an avid pig hunter of many years with an
almost identical love of Remington Mod 7600 in .35 Whelan but only the
choice of sight is different. Pete Charles favours a Tasco Pro Point PDP3
as his choice for chasing hogs in the northern region.
Other rifles include a custom long range .300 Winchester Magnum which
has such components as Harris Talon action; Tobler stainless steel fluted
barrel; McMillan stock and Leupold 8.5-25LRT with VH reticule.
Another interesting rifle from Peter’s collection is a Ruger No 1 in
6mm Remington caliber.
Also a long term competitor in IPSC which has taken a back seat to Sporting
Clays and skeet of recent years with a Browning over/under.
Pete has been a part of the team at CRM Gunsports since the Cairns inception
of 1993.
Shane Green – a newcomer to CRM since May 2006 but I
have lived in North Qld on and off all my life. I began shooting very early
on my parents property at Julia Creek and it continues to be the major
interest for me.
Favourite rifle depends on the game sought and terrain. Pigs are hunted
with a Browning pump .308 Win or my first centre fire rifle, a Winchester
Mod 88 in .308 Win. These rifles both wear Tasco Pro Point PDP3 red dot
sights as all current pig hunting is in the timber and swamps of Cape York
. Annual trips to various parts of Cape York have featured since 1989.
Another hunting “rut” is an annual visit to the South Island of NZ for
rabbits and Canada Geese; Paradise ducks as well as mallards.
A new “rabbit gun” will be broken in for 2007 in the form of a Remington
XR100 with the relatively new .204 Ruger caliber after many years of using
a small vintage L46 Sako in .222Imp. The .222IMP currently has an accurate
Lilja barrel installed by John Giles using my own reamer.
The .204 has been blooded in Cape York with a small boar and several
other ferals. Although definitely not the favoured “caliber” for pigs a
surgical shot behind the ear folded him literally in his tracks. The XR100 has been turned into a competitive F class .223 so now the 204 duties are taken up by a Sako SS Varmint.
I have also had 6 hunts to Zimbabwe between 1984 and 1999. Just about
all species being hunted and success with everything except lion.
A couple of larger rifle calibers still remain in the current battery
with at least one more trip to be undertaken in the next couple of years.
These are a .375H&H and .500 Jeffery’s – both custom rifles built
on extensively modified pre’64 Mod Winchesters.
I have competed at IPSC pistol; rifle and shotgun in earlier times –
1985 through 1998. From 1985 to present I have also been quite competitive
at sporting Clays. I have been a reloader of metallic centre fire ammunition
since 1975.
There is a general connection of IPSC for everyone at CRM Gunsports deriving
from as far back as 1989. Most of us were quite competitive and traveled
extensively to major shoots as well as State Titles and Nationals.
PK competed as a member of the Australian team in the USA in 1986.
Shane was a master grade shooter when he “retired” about 8 years ago
from IPSC. So we have all known each other quite awhile and still manage
cordial relations both at work and play!
This team has a combined shooting experience in excess of 160 years!!! |
